I have read Ecclesiastes more times than I can count. Most books give answers. Kohelet takes them away.

I did not set out to make an album.

I set out to sit with the old man who said, "All is futile," and discovered that he was far less pessimistic than people believe.

Three thousand years have passed.

Nothing he saw has disappeared.

Not ambition. Not pleasure.

Kohelet tasted everything the world could offer.

He was still hungry.

Yet he never said life was without worth.

People often describe Kohelet as pessimistic.

Reading him in Hebrew, I do not.The older I become,

the less I believe Kohelet was speaking about the world.

Not loneliness.

Not death.

These twelve tracks carry the twelve chapters of Ecclesiastes in Hebrew.

I will not tell you what they mean.

Kohelet never trusted easy explanations.

Listen.

Then pay attention to the thoughts that arrive when the music is over.

I have spent a lifetime with these Hebrew words.

They are still revealing themselves to me.

Chapter 1 – Everything is Futile

SpotifyMusic
The sun rises and sets, and you barely remember the heat.
Generations come and go, but the earth never asks your name.
You chase the wind until your lungs give out.
Your name will be spoken for the last time, and then the wind will not even notice.
What you have already done will be done again, and you will not be the first to wonder why.
Your soul remembers every sunrise you have already forgotten.

Chapter 2 – The Vanity of Pleasure

SpotifyMusic
You built what they said would satisfy. You drank, you laughed, you owned.
But when the wine was gone, the silence in the room was still yours.
Pleasure is a friend who leaves before the bill arrives.
You are not empty because you lacked things. You are empty because things lack you.
You chased pleasure as if it could answer a question you never had the courage to ask.
The feast ends, but the hunger that remains is not a wound,it is the shape of a longing too large for this world.

Chapter 3 – A Time for Everything

SpotifyMusic
A time to be born, a time to die, you knew that before you could speak.
A time to weep, a time to laugh, you have lived both more than once.
The mystery is not that seasons change, but that you keep standing in them.
You trust the clock, but the clock has already buried every king who ever set it.
You do not need to understand the clock. You only need to trust that it is right.
The clock ticks, but your soul that counts the seconds will still be there when the clock is dust.

Chapter 4 – Oppression and Loneliness

SpotifyMusic
You have seen the tears of the powerless, and no one came to comfort them.
Two are better than one, but you have slept alone more nights than you count.
A cord of three strands is not easily broken, but one strand snaps every day.
Loneliness is not the absence of people. It is the absence of someone who sees you.
The lonely beggar and the lonely billionaire die in the same silence.
You have been unseen, but your soul has kept a ledger of every tear you did not cry, and that ledger is not forgotten.

Chapter 5 – Fear God, Not Wealth

SpotifyMusic
Money promises safety, then vanishes with one bad decision.
You have watched the rich fall asleep in palaces and wake up in nightmares.
The one who loves wealth never has enough, the one who fears God already has everything.
The zeros in your bank account will not bargain for a single extra breath.
Your bank account is a liar. Your empty hands can still receive.
Money rusts, but the moment you gave your last coin to someone who needed it more, that moment is still alive inside you.

Chapter 6 – The Unfulfilled Life

SpotifyMusic
A man lives a thousand years and never enjoys a single day.
He has everything, but his soul is a locked room with no windows.
You can give birth to a hundred children and still die with a hollow chest.
You can own the world and still go to your grave as a starving ghost.
It is not what you lack that kills you. It is what you have and cannot taste.
You have tasted nothing, but your soul has tasted the centuries. It knows what you could not name.

Chapter 7 – The Value of Wisdom

SpotifyMusic
Sorrow is better than laughter, you did not believe that until life proved it.
Wisdom will not comfort you. It will show you where you have been lying to yourself.
The wise heart knows when to mourn, and the fool laughs until the floor caves in.
You have been wounded by flattery and saved by a hard truth.
Wisdom does not make you happy. It makes you ready.
Wisdom does not make you ready for death. It makes you ready to meet the One who was there before you were born.

Chapter 8 – Obey the King

SpotifyMusic
Every tyrant who ever lived is now feeding worms, and the worms do not bow.
The powerful do what they want, and you must bow whether you like it or not.
No one can restrain the wind or say to death, "Not today."
You have watched the wicked buried with honor and the forgotten left in the dirt.
Justice is slow, but it is not blind. It is waiting for the right door to open.
The king's power ends at the grave. But your soul has already signed a contract with someone who does not die.

Chapter 9 – Death Comes to All

SpotifyMusic
You are not special. Neither am I. That is the most liberating truth you will never want to hear.
The fastest runner, the strongest warrior, the most brilliant mind, all stop at the same gate.
Time and chance happen to everyone, and you are not the exception.
You have loved, and you will lose. You have hoped, and you will wait.
Death is not your enemy. It is the only appointment you cannot break, and that is not a curse, it is a reminder to taste every grape.
Death takes the body, but the part of you that loved, that hoped, that whispered in the dark, that part is not a corpse. It is only changing rooms.

Chapter 10 – The Burden of Folly

SpotifyMusic
Your reputation will not climb out of the coffin with you.
A little foolishness can spoil a reputation built over decades.
You have said the wrong thing at the wrong time and watched the room turn cold.
The wise walk carefully, the fool trips over his own confidence.
Your mistakes do not disqualify you. They are the gravel you walk on to get where you are going.
Your mistakes are not erased. They are carved into a stone that only your soul can read, and that stone is called mercy.

Chapter 11 – Take a Risk

SpotifyMusic
You do not know which seed will grow, so plant them all.
The clouds are full, but you cannot control when they break.
If you wait for perfect certainty, you will die in the doorway.
Fear is not wisdom. Fear is the thing that keeps you from your own life.
The only certainty you have is that you are already dying. So why are you still waiting for permission to live?
The seed you plant may die, but the soil remembers every seed that ever fell. Your soul is that soil.

Chapter 12 – Remember Your Creator

SpotifyMusic
When you stand before the One who made you, your résumé will burst into flames. Only what you loved will remain.
The days of trouble are coming, the grinding teeth, the darkened windows, the silver cord snapping.
You have felt your own body whisper, "Not much longer now."
Remember Him before the sound of the mill fades and the door to the street is shut.
You are not too old, too tired, or too late. The dust returns to the earth, but your breath? Your breath goes back to the One who gave it.
The silver cord snaps, the golden bowl shatters, but the breath that was loaned to you returns home, and home remembers every single thing you ever were.
