THE ANATOMY OF DECEPTION | Sami Bsoul
A person can deceive you without telling you a single lie.
The words may be true. The answer may sound reasonable. Nothing may appear to be missing. Yet something essential has been kept outside your understanding.
Deception can begin with a silence, a carefully limited truth, or an explanation that makes the wrong thing seem reasonable. It can shape what you notice, what you dismiss, and which question never gets asked.
Nor does it always begin with the intention to deceive another person. Sometimes, the story must first become convincing to the person telling it.
The difficult part is recognizing what has happened when every explanation still seems to make sense.
◆The question is not only whether you were told the truth, but what that truth allowed you to believe.
