Gather Your Plus Points During The Interview

Gather Your Plus Points During The Interview

Part 3

By Sami Bsoul

It is possible that your interview will be conducted by more than one person. Don't panic. These are often the best interviews, and you should be pleased if more than one person is interviewing you. The fact that there are more people in the room doesn't necessarily mean more questions.

Typically, the entire interview is limited to one hour, so the number of questions will also be limited. However, this is even better because you will

have the opportunity to speak to more people, to more minds. You know that after the interview, there will be a debate about you between these people. The more opinions that are gathered, the more opportunities for you to stand out.

Your interviewers understand that you might be a bit stressed and it is their obligation to make you feel at ease. As part of their good practice, they will definitely offer you a glass of water. Even if you don't feel the need to drink, never reject their offer. Accept it and thank them for it. In case the interviewer informs you that you need to wait a few minutes for the manager, who is coming back from another meeting, to join you, take advantage of the situation. Express your understanding by saying, "Yes, sure. That is alright." Use this as an opportunity to calm your nerves and prepare yourself further for the interview.

Or you could say, "I completely understand, no problem at all." Say something positive, but don't be negative and don't stay silent. Don't miss this opportunity, as it is a great chance for you to interact with the interviewer. Small talk breaks the ice before the interview officially starts. For example, if you noticed the workspace in the office, you could say, "I like how the workspace looks" or "I like the building." Once everyone is in the room, the interviewers will formally introduce themselves and their roles. Maintain eye contact, avoid distractions, and let your thoughts flow freely. Note: if you are asked what success means to you, please don't quote fancy success statements from a book. Instead, say something like, "I measure my success by my ability to complete short- and long-term goals and tasks assigned to me.

Note 1: During the interview, make sure to highlight your strengths. Show your interviewers how your experience and knowledge can benefit the company. Remember, you are being evaluated on more than just your qualifications. Your attitude and demeanour also play a crucial role in the decision-making process. Speak in a positive tone and avoid sarcasm. Don't be afraid to ask questions or ask for clarification. This shows that you are genuinely interested in the position and eager to learn more about the company. By highlighting your strengths and showing a positive attitude, you will leave a lasting impression on your interviewers.

Note 2: You have already sent your resume to the companies where you want to work. It is now recommended that you create a job search framework that will help you make better follow-ups. This framework should include precise details such as the name of the company, the name of the recruiter (if available), the full name of the position, and a short summary of the job requirements for each position you applied to. You might be wondering, what is the purpose of this framework? Well, let's say you applied to multiple companies and positions. After a week or more, you may forget important details about each job, making it difficult to know which position the recruiter is calling about when they contact you for a screening call or interview. This confusion can be avoided if you have all the necessary information in writing. If you are still unsure whether this job search framework is necessary, consider this: if someone invites you for a job interview and you have all the relevant details at your fingertips, you will be one step ahead of those who did not prepare such a framework. You will be ready from day one when you sent your CV out, and you will not need to repeatedly search through emails to see who sent what to you.

Very important: You should not leave the search for the following information until the last minute. Therefore, in your employment framework, you should include the following information:

The name of the company and its location, including whether the company has multiple sites.

The company's business activities and who its competitors are in the market.

The name of the person you will be meeting with and the name of your future manager.

The job title and its requirements, as well as the benefits offered.

A detailed description of how you will present yourself for the specific position.

Questions you will likely ask the recruiter and your future employer.

The approximate salary offered and your salary expectations.
